My Hair History
Hello Dolls!! I figured I'd start this blog off by telling you all about my hair and history. I'm a bi-racial child, half Black and half Italian. My mother being Italian had no idea what to do with my 3c hair. That's when my Daddy took over. At that point he learned to braid and relax my hair. Mind you I'm 29 now, so at the time we're talking 90's. The products and knowledge have come a long way since then and my hair definitely suffered from 90's haircare. Not to mention the Alopecia Areata I was diagnosed with in 2001 at 15. Since then I managed to lose and gain all of my hair back. Cosmetology school was always in my heart and in 2008 my Mom and Step Dad paid my way!!! I worked at a Sally Beauty Supply, Barber shops, and hair salons getting me to where I am today. I thrive for knowledge and to educate anyone that may inquire. Growing up I had questions but with the internet still developing they went unanswered. With that being said here we are today!!
In the beginning my 3c hair was dry and unmanageable making it behave like 4a hair. Children's grade relaxers would be my first venture into the wavy world. Only using the relaxer to tame my curly hairstyle wasn't the problem. Blow drying and straightening with marcels is what my hair couldn't handle. It broke off with each overlapped application of the relaxer. Back to naturally curly.
While working at Sally's I came to understand heat protection. NECESSITY! Never would I apply heat without a heat protector. Sew in weaves and ponytail's were my thing.
I started school and name brand products and organics became a must. I was growing into the Healthy Hairstylist I always dreamed of becoming!! My natural hair was healthy and gorgeous.
Though I was able to get my natural curls on point I still wanted them to relax. Healthy, my hair was closer to a 3b but still 3c. Keratin treatments caught my eye. I'm a firm believer in Brazilian Blowout when maintained and done correctly. Too bad I went through about 3 or 4 people that didn't do them correctly. Went through a couple big chops then I found Brazilian Blowout. It weighed my hair down enough to make the curls drop but didn't damage my wave pattern. I can even say that my hair is a 3b now!! I predict that by my birthday in September I'll be at BSL. This is my short and sweet hair journey. We will definitely go into more detail about everything but I hope you enjoyed my intro. TTYL
